iKnit

I finished the iPod sock for Orange Boy. He really loves it, and I'm glad, because the size 1's were torture! Girls, I'm just not cut out for socks! I started on a sweater from the book "Fitted Knits" on 13's and my fingers are starting to recover.
I've been browsing lace patterns for my next project- a wrap for the spring. I just haven't found the right one. I want it to be very open and loopy, but have a repeat of 4(ish) rows so I can memorize it. Oh, also it has to be on at least size 7's. :)
Please please help me!

You might want to try a scribble scarf from Mason-Dixon Knitting. it uses really big needles but isn't really lace.

For easy lace scarves or wraps, I have three stiches that have worked very well for me. The easiest is faggotting which is just a yarn over followed by a decrease all the way across. If you start and end with K2 and slip the first and last stitch every other row you get a very nice edge. The results are more modern looking than what most people think of as lace. it works very well with worsted weight yarn so a 7 or larger needle would be great. There's a great discussion of this in Susanna Lewis's Knitting Lace and several variations shown in Walker's "A Treasury of Knitting Stitches".

The second pattern that I really love is a little more complicated than 4 repeats but not too much. It's also in Walker's first book and is called Waterfall pattern.

The third pattern is my misinterpretaton of Spider stitch from Walker's second book. Using a multiple of 6 stitcehs plus 1, Purl on all odd rows. For Rows 2, 4, & 6 K1,* yo, ssk, k2, k2tog, yo, k1*. For rows 8, 10 & 12 K1,* k2tog, yo, ssk, k1*.

The stitches are all quite easy to learn and the knitting just flies along. For the first two you would want to use a worsted or light worsted weight yarn with size 7 or 8 needles. For the third I would step down to a DK or Aran weight yarn with size 7 needles.

Enjoy!
